Tiger Species

Two types of tigers are known: the continental tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) and the Sunda tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica). Tigers are the biggest of all Asian big cats, and they rely on their eyes and ears more than their sense of smell when hunting. Usually, tigers hunt alone by quietly approaching their prey. They can eat more than 80 pounds of meat in one sitting! On average, a tiger gives birth to two to four cubs every two years. If all the cubs from one litter don't survive, the mother tiger might have another set of cubs within five months.
